Profile:

Dr Daniel Chan is a specialist Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon, with expertise in interventional endoscopy/ ERCP. Fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, Dr Chan offers multilingual consultations to better support his patients.

Sydney-born Dr Chan earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of NSW in 2011. He trained at St George Hospital, completing his internship, residency, and surgical training before obtaining a Master of Public Health from the University of Queensland in 2017. In 2019 he achieved his FRACS in General Surgery through the Sydney Southern network.

Dr Chan pursued advanced post-fellowship subspecialty training both in Australia and internationally. He completed clinical fellowships at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prince of Wales Hospital (Hong Kong) and St George Hospital (Sydney). Selected for the AANZGOSA post-fellowship training program, he further specialised in Upper GI surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital.

Passionate about research and medical education, Dr Chan has over 50 peer-reviewed publications in Upper GI surgery, Bariatric surgery, surgical oncology, and therapeutic endoscopy. In 2021, he earned an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) through UNSW, where he lectures and supervises BSc (Medicine) Honours students.

Dr Chan serves in the Australian Defence Force as a Surgeon, providing medical assistance and surgical care in various environments. His service includes domestic and overseas deployments, including to the NSW Bushfires, Solomon Islands and the Middle East.
