Dr Roy Hopkins

Dr Roy Hopkins is an Australian trained Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and General Surgeon. He has accredited subspecialist training in Oesophago-gastric surgery (AANZGOSA Program), Bariatric Surgery, and experience at one of the highest volume oesophago-gastric cancer, bariatric and complex benign Upper GI surgery services in the UK.

He performs all aspects of Upper GI surgery including surgery for stomach and oesophageal cancers, hiatus hernia and anti-reflux surgery, weight loss surgery and general surgery including gallbladder and hernia surgery.

Roy graduated from Sydney University with Honours in 2007 and undertook his junior medical officer and general surgery training in Central Sydney through RPA and Concord Hospitals. He obtained his Fellowship in General Surgery in 2016 and was subsequently accepted onto the highly competitive Australian and New Zealand Gastro-Oesophageal Surgery Association (AANZGOSA) post Fellowship program. This involved placements at Bankstown and Liverpool Hospitals in Sydney, and at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide. He also spent time at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney before relocating to the United Kingdom. Whilst in the UK, Roy worked at the Bristol Royal Infirmary followed by the Greater Manchester Oesophago-Gastric Service at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Roy prides himself on his approachable and compassionate nature and puts the quality of life of his patients at the forefront of his treatments. He believes in evidence based practice and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Outside of the operating theatres, Roy is a proud husband and father. He is also a keen bagpipe player and avid soccer and rugby fan.
