Profile:

Dr Ben Schwarz studied Medicine at the University of New South Wales and graduated with honours in 2008. Dr. Schwarz was selected to undertake specialist training in Orthopaedic surgery by the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2013. He completed his training and was awarded his Fellowship by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2018. During his time on the training program Dr. Schwarz rotated through a number of major trauma services, high-volume arthroplasty units and specialty orthopaedic units. This included specialty terms at the Sydney Hospital Hand Unit and the Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick.

After obtaining his fellowship, Dr. Schwarz spent 6 months working at a major trauma service hospital in NSW. He then went overseas to Canada and undertook a sub-specialty fellowship in London, Ontario with a focus on primary and revision hip and knee replacement.

On his return to Australia he completed a further sub-specialty knee fellowship focusing on knee arthroplasty and arthroscopic reconstruction.

This augmented his previous training in uni-compartmental and total knee arthroplasty including revision arthroplasty, as well as furthering his training in re-alignment osteotomy, arthroscopic ligament reconstruction, patellofemoral dysfunction, management of chondral injury and meniscal repair.

Dr. Schwarz has a strong interest in research, teaching and education. He has been involved in training undergraduate students and junior medical staff currently and throughout his training and post-graduate career. This has led to him being granted teaching/tutor titles through Griffith, Bond and Wollongong Universities.

He has presented at local and national meetings and has had publications accepted by international peer-review journals.  Dr. Schwarz is committed to providing individualised care to his patients utilising current best practices, along with an open caring approach to patients and their families.

Dr Schwarz is an Australian-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with a sub-specialty interest in disorders of the hip and knee as well as general orthopaedic trauma. He has completed sub-specialty fellowships both locally and internationally focusing on hip and knee replacements as well as sport injuries of the knee.
