East Sydney Private Hospital is a modern boutique private hospital located in Woolloomooloo, Sydney, with arterial access to Sydney’s southern, western and northern suburbs.
Being a smaller boutique facility enables our clinical care team, leadership team and our group of dedicated and expert medical and surgical specialists to establish very close working relationships. This connection and integrated approach ensures our hospital service delivery is seamless. Every member of the care team works in cohesion, with open lines of communication and transparency; this helps ensure your clinical journey is seamless and allows for greater personalisation in your hospital experience.

Our Story
The Art Deco-influenced building in which East Sydney Private Hospital is located was initially built for Hastings Deering in 1938, later becoming a six-storey showroom and headquarters for City Ford.
Founded in 2014 by our Medical Director, Dr Peter Kalish, East Sydney Private Hospital is a relatively new private hospital. After acquiring levels 4 and 5 of the beautifully appointed building,
East Sydney Private Hospital attracted an abundance of highly experienced and reputable specialists across Sydney, growing its services to cover a diverse range of specialties including;
Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology and Plastic & Cosmetic surgery.
Reaching a significant milestone of 5 years in operation, East Sydney Private identified the need for expansion, growing the hospitals’ services, and driving further innovation in healthcare delivery in a changing market. In mid-2020, health insurer Medibank Private became hospital shareholder; this has paved an exciting path for the facility to drive leading clinical care, optimal service delivery and strong value for private health insurers members. One program which resulted from this collaboration was our Short Stay Joint Replacement program, which has no out-of-pocket surgical costs for patients in participating health funds.
Our Facilities
East Sydney Private Hospital is accredited to version 2, the most recent National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standard. With 32 overnight medical and surgical beds, a recent ward expansion has added 12 luxurious private rooms with ensuites and many boasting Woolloomoo wharf water views.
We have five spacious operating theatres, including a dedicated eye theatre with adjoining set-up room that facilitates integrated imaging capabilities. A large 55sqm orthopaedic theatre provides significant capacity for those procedures requiring extra instrumentation and theatre support staff.
A core value to our leadership team is quality patient care, to achieve this we are continually invest in state-of-the-art instrumentation, minimally invasive technology. This investment and allows our clinical team to provide integrated care ranging in the treatment of complex sinus surgery, joint replacement and spinal fixation surgery including cervical disc replacement.
Our services have expanded to include weight-loss surgery, pain management, and a range of general surgical procedures such as hernia repairs, reflux surgery, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We accept medical admissions as well as offering acute care for nursing home transfers.

Allied health & diagnostic services
Our comprehensive physiotherapy service supports patients at all stages of their recovery. From prehabilitation, which involves preparing patients for surgery and returning home before they enter the hospital, inpatient physiotherapy, and rehab in the home for patients deemed clinically appropriate.
Our recent investment includes dedicated onsite radiology services with marketing leading CT scanner located on level 5.
Also located onsite is Laverty pathology clinic. All of these facilities are open for the benefit of both inpatient and outpatient services.
